BYE, GUYS. See you on Wednesday!

Leave me something nice?

“I strongly believe in gay rights, but I really hate that people want Disney to have a gay couple. I think it would just be so wrong to incorporate into their movies. I can’t even explain why to myself, but I just really hope it never happens.”

“I am 100% with Gay rights BUT OMG NOT A DISNEY MOVIES!!! OMG WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN? I just really hope it never happens.”
Seriously just no

We spoke a lot about whether or not there should be GLBTQ issues within children’s literature.
One girl raised her hand and said, “I don’t think so. I don’t think it’s necessary. It’ll just bring up questions and they won’t understand.”
I…disagree. Children are exposed to heterosexuality from birth. Rapunzel, Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty…name ANY Disney princess and she is involved in a heterosexual relationship. So why not expand to include all couples? If children grow up with stories that feature people who are gay, lesbian, transgender, bisexual, pansexual, whatever, they will grow up knowing that it’s okay to be that way.
I see nothing detrimental about it. I only see people who don’t want to talk the time to talk to their kids.

Exactly.
Children are consistently exposed to images and ideals of heterosexual relationships almost from the moment they are born. If they saw homosexual relationships in their every day life they wouldn’t need it “explaining” because it would already be a part of their consciousness.
I think it would be a good thing. I’d have given anything to see that my relationships - the relationships I wanted, with a woman - aren’t just about sex. That a homosexual romance was just as valid as anything else…

Just giving Ya’ll some Babybatch… Enjoy!

Irrevocably, a reader.

At one magical instant, in your early childhood, the pages of a book - that string of confused alien ciphers- shivered into meaning. Words spoke to you, gave up their secrets; at that moment, whole universes opened. You became, irrevocably, a reader.

—Alberto Manguel

I love this quote.

This is me wrapped up.

I love reading. I am a reader, irrevocably so. I love the smell of old books (and new!). I love the feeling I get after finishing a good book. I love sharing books with my friends and talking about what we like and dislike.

Some people don’t get this. Some people think those of us who treasure our books and cuddle our books, and love our books are just special snow flakes looking for attention.

Guess I’m a special snow flake then, and I’m gonna go read and let myself react to what I’m reading (and possibly stick my nose in the book, give it a good sniff), and maybe if I finish it tonight, and like it enough, I’ll hug it to my chest for a little while before putting it back in its place on the shelf.

gamerchick02 replied to your post: My feelings on elementary are as follows I will…
I agree. I’m not sure how I feel about Watson gender-swapped. I think CBS did that so we could have a H/W relationship and it not be all “ick, it’s so gay!!!” ARGLE BARGLE, conservative networks bother me.

That’s a good point.  I should have specified that the heterosexual “will they or won’t they” is done to death. If, say, this female Watson is a lesbian, I would definitely be interested in seeing what they do with it. That would be great! But I really, really doubt that will be the case.

I’m sure it won’t be the case.  I think the last lesbian character on a mainstream TV show was on Ellen.  Seems like gay guys are ok to have on a show (Will and Grace) but lesbian women are not.

Also, it’s CBS.  They’re entrenched in hetero relationships.

This is coming from someone who liked CSI til Grissom left (I even put up with the replacement; but I think they need to kill that show).  I shipped Harm/Mac on JAG (and they NEVER got together; makes for better fanfic).  I also like the various hetero parings on NCIS.  I’m not adverse to hetero relationships.  But with the whole H/W dynamic, it should be all gender-swapped or no gender-swapped.  Just my humble opinion.

Yes! I remember reading a post in which it was suggested that Freema Agyeman should have played Sherlock to Lucy Liu’s Watson instead.  That, I would watch.

I’m not familiar with that particular actress, but I’m sure it would have been awesome.

Glad to see that we’re in agreement about the gender-swapping.  :)

This is my main problem with Elementary. If they introduce Mary Morstan I will be more than excited for it, but the gender-swap in this context just makes me uncomfortable.

Sometimes I feel like people assume I made a conscious decision at some point to be ~different~ that I picked out what I wanted to stand for and the point I wanted to make and decided to act in a certain way to reflect that

I didn’t

I’m just living. This is all accidental and a result of blindly stumbling around with no real friends for the majority of my formative years

After much speculation, we can reveal that Green Lantern Alan Scott will come out as gay in DC Comics’ forthcoming issue of EARTH TWO #2.
First Northstar from the Marvel universe and now Green Lantern! Hooray! :)
